Get to Know Us

We create DISTRICT-SPECIFIC campaigns that allow bipartisan conversations-- issues that most people may agree or disagree with -- without polarization.

For special elections in District 27 on the week of September 11th, we wanted to be able to collect data about those willing to move into action, the age group, and how we could expand the efforts of the club.

The political parties in Queens have become political favors, corruption, or plain ignorance.  Kinetic Civic Education challenges you to think about what are  your community's obligation to being a citizen, resident, or new visitor.

A. District 27 Project

We are focusing on the Sixth Congressional District which includes half of Queens and will be defined by State Assembly District so we are accustomed to the different ways to identify as a group.

PLEA [Practical, Leveling, Empowering, Accountability] CAMPAIGN

What is the State Assembly:

The New York State Assembly is the lower chamber of the New York State Legislature. Alongside the New York State Senate, it forms the legislative branch of the New York state government and works alongside the governor of New York to create laws and establish a state budget. Legislative authority and responsibilities of the New York State Assembly include passing bills on public policy matters, setting levels for state spending, raising and lowering taxes, and voting to uphold or override gubernatorial vetoes.

Write- in “Kimberly Cruz” Campaign

Issues we will bring to the assembly floor:

1. Jail Complex: Rikers Island inhumane conditions may be repeated in the new jail complex at 80-25 126th Street in Kew Gardens, right next to the Kew Garden Court, endangering the people of Queens

2. OpenAI: Establish laws in the assembly to protect the elderly and youth populations with OpenAI such as Chatgpt and other alternatives which is currently decreasing writing abilities, spreading misinformation and disinformation across the political spectrum

3. Con-Ed: Address the monopolization of Con-Edison, they propose to increase in the next year by 10%, they have made errors on many resident bills without accountability, and they will abuse their position with the increase in electric cars.

4. Unregulated Vehicles: Remove unregulated, unmarked vehicles such as e-bikes and motorcycles, from the streets to prevent residents from not being able to use their insurance in accidents, getting injured, and allowing the district to fine these vehicles when the riders commit crimes

5. Low-Level Crimes: Creating more infrastructure for low level crimes to be reported and funneled into action so we  notice a pattern before it leads to decay of our society

Kimberly Cruz's campaign offers a fresh perspective on politics, encapsulated by her slogan, "It's not me, it's you." This motto challenges voters to reconsider how legislation impacts their lives and directs accountability towards those responsible. Cruz encourages speaking out with conviction, declaring, "IT'S NOT ME, IT'S YOU," whenever necessary to address issues and hold those at fault accountable. Her campaign underscores the significance of individual agency while emphasizing the shared responsibilities of government, officials, city agencies, and nonprofits.

Cruz's approach is rooted in pragmatism. She emphasizes the need for tangible solutions and immediate action on critical issues, such as water shortages and social inequalities. Her campaign seeks to break free from traditional political strategies, viewing the upcoming special elections as an opportunity to swiftly implement change within the Assembly.

It's Not You, It's Me

The government repeatedly tells us this phrase, that they are the ones at fault, making your feel likes those in a relationship where you know it is a phrase you just state but the actual meaning is reverse. Now take control of that term and yell it to the ether, "IT'S NOT ME, IT'S YOU!" The government has to stop blaming individuals in a vacuum but understand how can we evaluate our progress every week and change effectively. Okay, water is an issue. Who are the nonprofits in the area and what have they done in the last ten years, and what are some solutions they believe we should investigate, and how does changing this water problem affect other fields? Will it be like Con-Ed covering environmental curb charges onto the citizens. The big companies made their necessary decisions, okay "pasado pisado", the past has been stepped on, move on, and make change that can lessen your struggle. Put me in office right now, to finish the term before the presidential elections.

Real World Examples:

1. If you promise to give four hundred families food, let's analyze who are the 400 families coming every week. Are they new, same families, and how can we improve services. This is where elected local officials come in, a chance for them to interact with constituents. Local elected officials at every event should have people ready to teach people to get on the newsletter for their local office.

2. Do we know what Chatgpt is well let's talk about it from an educated point of view, not really common sense but more informed point of view, any takers? We have to bring those conversations onto the floor simultaneously combatting quality control in these jails so that repeat offenders are not in inhumane conditions and once their short sentence is over they are more unwell due to the jail condition and now have to struggle more and then become more of an issue for the community.

3. You need help taking care of your children? Yes, and you want quality care, not just any care, yes, well every mother wants that but what if they do not know how to be a mother? They want to join a religion but cannot because of the echo chambers of life.

4. What would you do if the United States could not house anymore people in the city-- new arrivals as well as long term residents? What is the actual solution, well we have to tackle it right now and confront the legal change right now. Bring the perspectives down to the Assembly floor and vote. What New York State law is requiring you to be eligible for help? "It's not me, it's you", well on the one hand we barely have resources to help our fellow New Yorkers, that is true, yes, however, we also cannot turn our backs on people who are undocumened and already here. We should tackle policy because we are running out of connected resources. Are there any gaps in the aid we provide becuase right about now is the time to re-evaluate.

5. Beijing is trying to control a narrative around their economy. My point of view is that China is a beautiful nation with rich history but internally it is very easy for social strife to create gap. The same can be said and is true for the United States. We have to be patriotic again, we cannot allow bigotry to taint our image of the US and just like any time a family relative makes you a little embarrassed, the United States is part of you and you have to therefore deal with it. With family, you do to shove them in a corner of a closet for others to deal with, you have to eventually put yourself out there and interact. Well, interact, yell " IT'S NOT ME, IT'S YOU!" The problem isn't me, it is your lack of accountability. When I get hurt, you have to help me. When I am sick, you have to help me. Help me find a solution because that is what the citizenship brings you, quality of life and care, which means  if the government was tasked to help solve this issue then they must do a better job.

Water

There are new dangers that are effecting people across the board but in a very different ways. With the air and heat wave phenomenon. Today in the NYTimes we see groundwater levels decreasing where 40% of the the wells were at lower levels than ever before seen. There are 80,000 wells in the United States and we are having a shortage of water. This is not to cause mass hysteria or ring the alarm bells but we are in fact supposed to get engaged with policy. When the time in history marks the day you get involved in a concept outside of yourself you must think about the basics of life which include water. The sacred aspect of water and bread for life allows you to want to bring legislation to the assembly floor. Write in "KIMBERLY CRUZ" and you may directly talk to me about your issues 646-895-4909.

What did you eat for lunch?

Set an alarm for the special elections date September 2, 2023 at 12:30 pm and remember what law you want on the Assembly floor. Water. Life. Liberty.

Wealthy perspective we have air conditioning , wind power, solar, con-edision bill errors not really an issue, I have other homes if this one gets damaged, I can live in a different country, I have a local community that can provide housing , I have family around , my neighbors are really nice.

*Wealthy meaning it depends on your life at a stage, age, or perspective and we have to vote on issues rather than on fictional party lines. We have a current election process that will be a laughing stock on civil disorder from the left and from the right. We have to think about the issues.

Chatgpt? Groundwater? Electricity? Crime(even low level)? Riders?

Expanding on the issues:

ChatGPT effecting fields of great importance and the lack of accountability on these agents

The news has been covering the frequent incorrect usage of ChatGPT. "Earlier this year, a lawyer found himself in hot water after he used Chat GPT to write his legal argument — resulting in citations of imaginary case law and nonexistent trial decisions. The safety of Tesla’s self-driving cars, which relies on A.I., is under federal scrutiny. Now, for A.I.’s next star turn: A lawmaker in New York said he consulted an A.I. bot to come up with ideas for new legislation."  Therefore, as citizens we have to be vigilant and be the agents of change that keep those in power accountable. I will be a lion on the floor, bringing up these issues that are creating dangerous precedent for our society. In schools, we are now going to accept ChatGPT even though it undermines everything people stand for.

ChatGPT and Sexual Wartime Violence: Past and Present

                                                 Past

At Yale, we embarked on a journey to shed light on a deeply sensitive and often controversial topic - wartime sexual violence in Asia during World War II. During my time as President of STAND with Comfort Women, when we dared to speak out about this historical injustice, we encountered resistance. But we didn't back down.

Our exploration led us to a remarkable four part series with a grandmother survivor, acclaimed professors, and activists from around the world. SOURCES 1, 2, 3, 4. A Harvard Law Professor denied the suffering of victims that has been documented very well through government agencies as well as higher institutions. The pain of these women, truth, could have been erased completely if we solely relied on age of OpenAI. In this era of ChatGPT, we realize the power of building a tight-knit community, one that's acutely aware of the challenges faced by our neighbors. If these traumas are not documented to the "appropriate" long term investigative unit then the story will be lost in history.

In response to rising anti-Asian sentiment, it's essential for women to unite and share their diverse stories within our Queens community. By creating a tapestry of intercultural, intersectional, and intergenerational narratives, we foster accountability to combat escalating violence.

                                                       Present

The migrant crisis poses a risk of increased crime when adequate support and legislation are lacking. It's not about defunding support but establishing accountability markers and creating consequences when a standards of Queens Quality of Life is unchecked. We can emulate the 311 service model to track local services and hold the police accountable for addressing harassment and minor crimes.

Consider a real example: A person is struck by a high-speed thrown object, resulting in injury. The police categorize it as harassment rather than assault, leaving the perpetrator's behavior unchecked. We must transparently document such incidents to raise awareness and pressure lawmakers to address these dangers comprehensively. Here is the link to check all the service requests you make when you call 311 to report illegal parking, dumping, and noise complaints.

Post COVID there has been a disconnect from all sections of life and to continue funding the community groups we have to be in the mind of the people, whoever your interest group of people encompass.

                                   What can we actively do?

But it doesn't stop there. We're pondering how to document these experiences effectively, so when change does come, we have a powerful record to demand justice and compensation.

Now, we're witnessing brave American veteran women sharing their painful stories of sexual assault during war, stories that are tragically unfolding today with little documentation. How can we create a safe haven for them? Do you care?

The tensions in Latin America, US-Mexico relationships, democracies collapsing, human rights violations, all various types of war where there are sexual victims at any rank on any field.

The stakes are high. If we enter into conflicts, more of our children may fall victim to sexual violence, without a support network to help them speak up. This is where our responsibility lies, in creating that safe space.

In this climate, we must champion Congress's efforts to keep foreign influences at bay and prevent the spread of negativity. The United States has often been a beacon for democracy, and we must stand up for the rights of those in danger.

As the saying goes, "Know thy party by the issues it champions." In a world where smaller groups can wield disproportionate influence, it's vital that we align our political choices with our core values and concerns.

Meanwhile, as we discuss these critical issues, there are voices advocating for isolationism,"We should remove ourselves from NATO", like the LaRouche organization. They're setting up shop across from 75-03 Roosevelt Avenue, drawing from a history of shifting political ideologies. In any realm that We have to join groups to start to civically engage with people. Start here.

Keeping Government agencies accountable

I have been working on understanding the gaps of NYC. Some of the notable issues I have encountered when keeping our resources accountable:

One of the main issues is that NYC agencies will only keep their own records of reports and quality control, the Council should get these reports but these are hundreds of data points that their team might not be able to hold; therefore, you should fill out the form with your address or zip code to keep track of these complaints:

1) NYC Mental Health services: NYC WELLS is a phone number for free anonymous mental health service help where you can talk to a peer counselor or to a counselor 24/7. Please report to us if you are not enjoying the services so we can have talking points about the actual experience using the services.

2) When you report something to the local community board please report this to your advocate in this organization. Call 646-895-4909. We will keep record of your complaints and provide a copy when we advocate for change in the city (with your permission).

We are working on compiling clear information so the city can actually have tangible evidence of need.

WELCOME

By delving into these topics, the Civic Education Club can help its members become more informed and engaged citizens, capable of understanding complex issues and participating in meaningful discussions and advocacy. It's important to encourage open dialogue, respect diverse perspectives, and foster critical thinking within the club to promote a well-rounded understanding of these complex issues.

The NY Congressional 6th District Several Queens communities, including Auburndale, Bayside, Elmhurst, Flushing, Forest Hills, Glendale, Kew Gardens, Maspeth, Middle Village, Murray Hill, and Rego Park, are included in the district. After redistricting, the district will in 2023 contain portions of Astoria and Jackson Heights that were once a part of NY-14.

What is this all about?

US History and World History looks so different to the modern age, not just because of the racial, financial, political, and social issues but because of the rate of change in the world, we cannot keep up! We should learn from our ancestors' trauma and use the most humanly advanced technology to make everyone's life easier. Therefore, we have to support this center, rally the people that love NYC the way that is and want to protect the integrity of this cosmopolitan land. Do we not remember the rights promised to ALL OF US -- "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness".

"The point to life is not making money but to save enough to afford the lifestyle of your authentic-found self." (Kimberly Cruz)
