Assembly District 27 Special Elections

September 2023

Summary of the Silent Protest:
1. We held a silent protest against the candidates who were not including large populations that did not know about the vote. About 2% of the people who were registered to vote actually went out. We were teaching people the election process in New York by providing them information on the write-in procedure as well as the rank choice that led to the outcome of the mayoral elections.
2. The difference was 500 votes between the Democrat and the Republican candidates which meant our plan to reach at least five thousand of the 63000 registered voters would have swayed the vote. The Republican candidate was a rabbi in the Orthodox community and the Democrat was a young attorney who was also part of the same orthodox community. The issue was that this region as seen in the image encompassed College Point where the migrant crisis has centralized, Whitestone where there are affluent Trump supporters, and Kew Gardens with the Jewish Orthodox community. 63,000 of the 172,000 people represented in this region were registered to vote. This does not mean that ONLY 63,000 had the ability to vote, some American citizens in the district were not registered to vote.
